windows xp download managerHow do I find my Download Manager in Windows XP?

My computer automatically downloaded Internet Explorer 7. I caught it before it installed (do not want it), but how do I find the download and delete it before it automatically installs again? I had it once and it slowed my computer way down, so do not want it.
It's my understanding that if IE7 is on your hard drive it will appear in the add/remove programs applet (start > control panel > add/remove programs.) You want to check mark the "show updates" box at the top and scroll down to all those other Windows Updates near the bottom. If you see IE7 listewindows xp download managerd, you can remove it. But since you say you caught it before it installed, it probably won't show up. It's probably not even on your hard drive (just like if you start to install any other software and cancel the action before it finishes.) You can double check this by opening Internet Explorer browser from the start menu. On the menu bar near the top of the screen (with File, Edit, View, etc.) click on Help then About Internet Explorer. This will confirm what version is installed.

To keep IE7 from automatically installing, you can change your updates from Auwindows xp download managertomatic to Notify Me But Don't Automatically Download or Install Them, or even turn off automatic updates completely (start > control panel > automatic updates.) This way you can pick and choose what gets updated and ignore IE7.

Or, you can download this free blocker from IntelliAdmin. Scroll down until you see the download for "local system".

The IntelliAdmin blocker was even recommended by Christopher Null, one of the Yahoo Tech advisors.

Hope this helps and puts your mind at ease.
