I downloaded houses ,people, and furniture.I saved them to the ea games, sims 2, downloads and when i opend the game it asked if i want to enabled them, and i clicked okay. but the house or the people didnt come up? what do i do? am i doing it wrong?

is the correct folder tree for downloads. If you have a .package file put it there. If it's a .sims2pack file you have to double click it to install it. People will appear in CAS only not in the Sim bin. Houses should be in the lot bin.
Well for me what i never did was save my downloads in the sims 2 download section. Because just in case I unstalled the game, I didn't want my downloaded content to be gone as well. But anyway as the other person said, you need to double click on each item and a blue menu should pop up asking do you want to instalea games sims downloadsl the following content. It will have a list of what that item contains or what it is, just click install and it will be programmed into the game. (This only works if the content is a Sims2Pack file). But, if its a package file put it in the download folder in the sims 2 game.
(EA games>The Sims 2>Downloads) When you start the game up it may ask you again do you want to enable custom content. But if it doesn't you should be fine! Good Luck!
Where did you download the content from?
If you got it at the EA Games Sims 2 site than save it and click and it will install itself. i would however NOT save the items to your EA games folder.
You should set up a folder for downloaded stuff somewhere else on your computer.
I used to save all my files in a folder called sims 2 stuff and saved it in Documents
I set up organized folders in the sims stuff foea games sims downloadslder one for skins one for objects one for walls n floors one for houses and one for mods.
Inside each of those I saved them in another folder according to the site I downloaded it from

Once you are done downloading your custom content you need to install WIN RAR which is free
as well as CEP found at Mod the Sims and again is free and helps certain items show up
