I don't know much about computers, but I did just buy the sims 3 and ea download manager has a bunch of patches, like sims 2 pets, for exaple. I downloaded that for the hell of it....What are these patches for? only if yfree ea games downloadou have the game? or is it a free download for the game, if so, how the hecky do you download it?

The patches fix glitches in the games. If you did not already buy anfree ea games downloadd install Sims2 Pets, there is no reason at all for you to get the Pets patch. EA is not giving away the full games for free.
You should however get the Sims3 patch.
If its for sims 2 it wont work for sims 3.
