I love the opinions of the members of Y! answers, especially those in the country music category. So I would like your opinions on why Taylor Swift is so popular. Question brought on by the fact that on my way to and from work last night and this morning the same song was playing on the radio back to back on two different stations, I get home and the video for Love Story is on CMT and all the Taylor Swift questions on Y! Answers. And before I get a bunch of Taylor fans calling me a "hater", I don't hate her, but I do think she's just okay and I don't understand the popularity. And I'm also getting a little sick of every time I turn around hearing or seeing Taylor Swift. Is any one else out there with me? All opinions are appreciated. Thanks.
Well, I wouldn't say I'm a hater in the sense of hating her personally but, I do think she's limited to her audience as the younger crowd digs her. I think there's far too much hype on her ability as a singer. She appeals to the younger country generation. For us older folks she's more of a novelty act and she won't be a long hauler in this genre. She's not that great and every performance of her live has been awful. Anybody can sound great in the studio or on radio as they can adjust the pitching and such. Videos are lip syncing so, that's just my opinion. Her record sales, concert sales, radio play due to requests are from the bulk of the cd sales which is the younger generation in general. 12-20 yrs. old plus the ipods and the downloads off the sites that offer that service. I hope that helped answer it yes her awards due in part with the above mentioned. She'll eventually fade away... Too much hype on a mediocre singer.

people need to face the facts. taylor swift cannot sing and the only reason she is popular is because a record company saw that they could make money off a pretty blond girl
I've been trying to figure this out for awhile now. She is not talented at all, but for some reasowhy is taylor swift sickn everyone loves her. She can't sing live at all, she sounds like a small child when she sings in studio, her songs are all about the same things and are poorly written, and she's not even that pretty. She doesn't seem like a very good person, either. She acts really phony and stuck up. Plus, she's not the least bit country, so I don't know why she gets played on country stations. I guess she's so popular because fans like who they are told to like. They were told by the media that Taylor Swift is good, so they like her.
Taylor has a good voice and she writes her own music, all from her own personal experiences. She also not afraid to speak out about ex-boyfriends and use their names in her songs. She relates well to her fans, and updates her myspace personally to connect to her fans. She's got a good sense of humor and she seems really down to earth. She's also really humble about her stardom.
Personally, I believe the reason why she is so popular is because she is such a great song writer. Being a song writer myself, I look for good talent such as hers, and who ever picked up her up and put her on their label did a great thing by doing so. Her looks are in her favor too, but I believe her song writing is essential in her success.

I appreciate her talent, although I do not consider myself a fan, and I don't really think she belongs in the country genre.
Time will tell if she has what it takes to make it in the long run. I do think her career will outlive Miley Cyrus'.
Because Nashville will take anything that will sell. Taylor Swift happened to be passing through right when Nashville needed another pretty face. That's what she is, a pop singer who will be done in a few years. As soon as her looks start to fade and her fans grow up there will be someone else just like her trying to get a record deal. There will be a new generation and Nashville will need someone new to sell.
I like her, mainly cause alot of songs she writes relates to some of the stuff Ive gone through such as cheating, dating, etc. And for a young artist shes clever with the lyrics and the music gets stuck in my head really easily. Oh and she writes her own stuff. I respect that alot. Good question!

She's just hot right now and radio stations only play music from hot artists....for ratings, ad money, etc. I like the sound of her voice and the lyrics to her songs. I also like that she writes her own music. You don't get all three of those attributes very often.
Taylor Swift is popular for 3 simple reasons:
1. She is a fantastic role model.
2. She pays attention to her fans.
3. She writes songs that girls can relate with.

Because she isn't like those teen people now she acts like a normal person and you can relate to her more. I love her music and shes great. She won tons of great awards. She has her own clothing company with L.E.I. Also she's just so sweet.

She is great. She has great songs that I love. Have you watched her video she is very beautiful also. I think she is level headed too. I just love her.
OMG the person above me, I never listen to music because it's on top of the charts I listen to music I can relate to and i listen to all diff kinds of music to suit my different moods. It seems like jealousyI mean the way you go about talking about her. I could argue with you all day but I won't, what i will say though is she IS country most def, and she is I bet 100% more beautiful than you.

Taylor Swift is young and telegenic. The "country" radio audience has evolved away from a song-oriented group to more of a video-oriented one. Just watch how many questions start "In the video, they .......". Obviously this hurts people with genuinely great songwriting abilities that may be "too old" for the young'uns. Also, those older artists tend to incorporate more of the strictly country instrumentation (steel guitar, banjo) that the younger listeners, coming out of a rock and roll background, don't like so well.
I like a couple of her songs but I'd never call her country and I'd never say she's a "great artist".
